Ideas for Wainscot Paneling

Posted

Wainscot PanelingWainscot paneling from New England Classic can be used in a multitude of ways.  Whatever your choice, you will be pleased with the beauty of the results. Whether it was added to your home in the 1800s or last week, it provides a wonderful opportunity for distinct architectural detail.  If treated correctly in your décor, wainscoting can add a gorgeous decorative element to your home.  Here are some ideas of how to bring your paneling to life.

In our previous article, we suggested painting the wainscot paneling a lighter shade of the same color you paint your walls.  Another idea, is to reverse that concept.  Paint the wainscot paneling a darker shade, and the walls a lighter shade of the same color.  This provides a beautiful dramatic finish to your room.  This concept can be a good choice for rooms with lower ceilings.  The lighter wall above the wainscoting can trick the eye into thinking the ceilings are higher.

Paint the wainscot paneling a color that is pulled from the décor in the room.  This idea is perfect in a child’s bedroom.  For example, paint the wainscot a pale pink color, and accent the color with the bedding and curtains.  You can create a more dramatic effect, by painting the wainscoting a dramatic color like lime green.  Then choose a coordinating color like turquoise or yellow for your fabrics.

If you are using Wainscot paneling in your bathroom, you can maximize its function by adding a shelf to the perimeter. This creates a place for anything from decorative knickknacks for extra character to a toiletries.

The sky is the limit when it comes to how to use wainscot paneling in your home.  It adds life and style to any room.
